Disc Inventory X (for Mac)
Disk Inventory X is a disk usage utility for Mac OS X 10.3 (and later). It shows the sizes of files and folders in a special graphical way.

Moving iPhoto Library To External Hard Drive
Ensure the external hard drive is connected.
In finder, select the iPhoto library and move to hard drive folder.
Depending on how large the library is this could take some time. Once completed you need to let iPhoto know where the library is. You can select this by holding down the option key, otherwise known as the 'alt' key on a MacBook, and opening iPhoto, you will be prompted to choose which library to use. You only need to do this once.
